Bird on Barn Door

IMAGE OF THE WEEK

Bird on Barn Door, VT

© Durga Yael Bernhard

I painted this quick sketch nineteen months ago while visiting my daughter in central Vermont.  It’s so beautiful there, I felt like I was in paradise (we call it “The Shire”).  Everywhere I looked, I saw images and scenes that begged to be painted, from the sweeping panoramas of the Green Mountains to the close-up charm of historic farms.  So I started about six paintings while I was there – and have managed to finish only two since then, having plunged into multiple publishing projects with deadlines as soon as I got home.

This image shows a two-dimensional carving, painted and faded, that hung on the barn door outside the house where my daughter lived.  This lovely bird was so elegantly sculpted and weathered, and perched so demurely among the summer bee balm – I fell in love with it.

If you’d like a poster or a greeting card of this image, you can order it here.

A good week to all, and for my local friends, cozy wishes through the coming snowstorm!
